Mirror's Edge + The Animatrix

My friend drew my attention to this trailer for Mirror's Edge, a first-person action-adventure game being developed by DICE for the XBOX 360 and the PS3. Even if you own neither of these consoles, I recommend you give it a look. While the title sounds incredibly interesting with free-running and no HUD to speak of, what really caught and held my attention was the atmosphere of the trailer. The soft music, the sound of breathing, the continuous flow of movement, the heroine falling, floating.

The only place I've seen this feeling captured before was in The Animatrix sequence, Beyond. The story of this short describes Yoko, a teenage girl searching for her missing cat who finds herself with neighborhood children playing in a haunted house in suburban Tokyo. The laws of physics suspended due to a glitch in the Matrix, the children are free to bend the world with their will.
